Arjan van Dal is a Dutch ceramicist living in London. He works primarily with porcelain. His work lies at the intersection of craft, art, and design. His starting point is a artisanal approach. The result looks almost industrially produced and is detailed and precise.
Form and color are the central elements of his work. The white porcelain medium is usually colored and shaped on the potter's wheel. The finished pieces are intensively polished to achieve a particularly tactile experience and to enhance the perception of the color depth.
In this workshop, we'll begin by creating our own colored porcelain. Then, we'll combine two colors using the color-blocking technique. This is a playful way to create a basic cylinder. This technique can also be adapted to different shapes later on.
This course is suitable for beginners with some centering experience and advanced students who want to work with porcelain.
We will take care of turning the pieces for you, so you can concentrate entirely on turning, designing the different patterns and experimenting with color gradients.
