Arjan van Dal is a Dutch ceramicist living in London. He works primarily with porcelain. His work lies at the intersection of craft, art, and design. His starting point is a artisanal approach. The result looks almost industrially produced and is detailed and precise.
Form and color are the central elements of his work. The white porcelain medium is usually colored and shaped on the potter's wheel. The finished pieces are intensively polished to achieve a particularly tactile experience and to enhance the perception of the color depth.
In this workshop, participants will learn how to work with porcelain to create a captivating gradient effect. Unlike our Gradient Plates (in vibrant colors) workshop, in this workshop we will work without pigments, using only the natural hues of the clay bodies.
We focus on the connection and the resulting gradients of porcelain with stoneware clay. The participants will create a serving plate with a beautiful silky matt surface.
We will then fire these plates for you and, if you wish, glaze them transparently.
