In this workshop with the multidisciplinary artist Karina Smagulova, organic vases inspired by the female body will be created by hand.

The workshop begins with an introduction to her work and her London studio, as well as an introduction to her "vessel moodboards". Karina will explain the historical background, shapes, textures and decorations and discuss them in the group.

The participants will then begin to think about an individual form. Some initial sketches will be created, which can change and develop intuitively during the course of the workshop.

Karina Smagulova, a multidisciplinary artist from London, introduces her organic vase creation in this Coiled Vessels workshop.

The «Women Vessels» are part of Karina's ongoing research, in which she explores the transcendental meanings of the vessel through the method of wrapping.

In this workshop, Karina introduces historical backgrounds, shapes, textures and decorations.

Participants then begin to think about an individual form. Some initial sketches are created, which can change and develop intuitively during the course of the workshop.

Karina will teach the participants the coiling technique and the slab technique for creating the base of the vessel. The rolling out of beads and the scoring and slip method for the walls of the vessels will also be introduced.

During the two days (either 24/25.05 in the evening or 25/26.05 in the morning), participants will have the opportunity to discuss their progress and review their successes individually.

The second day of this workshop series is dedicated to surface treatment and decoration.

All manufactured objects are burnt on high.

This course is suitable for beginners as well as advanced students who want to refine their technique.
