Andrea Roman is a Mexican ceramic designer based in London. Her work is characterized by colored clay, clean lines, and unglazed surfaces. In her practice, she explores contemporary functional ceramics through color, materiality, and composition, creating objects that exist at the intersection of function, architecture, and ritual.
She has collaborated with leading chefs; her work is available in independent shops and selected design stores that stand for craftsmanship, material-oriented practices and contemporary design.
In addition to her studio work, Andrea has over ten years of experience teaching ceramics and leading workshops. She is particularly interested in sustainability, collaborative work, and the relationship between handmade objects and everyday rituals.
Clay x Breakfast is an intensive two-day pottery course that focuses on the production of a cup, a bowl and a plate – executed in the clay color chosen by the participants (from three prepared, colored clay masses).
Starting with cylindrical shapes and clear basic forms, participants develop a cohesive breakfast set for two. The focus is on proportion, rhythm, and precise turning techniques, as well as an understanding of formal relationships within a set.
The course follows the material-oriented approach of Andrea Roman (AR CERAMICS): colored clay bodies, a reduced formal language, and the partial omission of glaze characterize the creative process. Participants will learn to handle material, color, and surface sensitively, with the aim of developing simple forms clearly and consistently.
The two-day format allows for focused, in-depth work. Participants develop a coherent, functional set for everyday use – instead of individual objects – and at the same time gain insight into a contemporary, material-based approach to ceramics.
There are 6 colors to choose from. When booking, you select your desired colors. You can choose one color for the plates, one for the cups, and one each for the bowls. You can note this in the comments section during the booking process. Images can be found in the image gallery.
