Arjan van Dal (1974) is a Dutch ceramist living in London. He works mainly with porcelain. His work is at the interface of craft, art and design. His work starts with an artisanal approach. The result looks almost industrially manufactured and is detailed and precise.
Form and colour are the central elements of his work. The white porcelain as a medium is usually coloured and shaped on the pottery wheel. The finished pieces are intensively polished to achieve a particularly beautiful silky matt result and to enhance the perception of the depth of colour.
We will focus on the relationship between form and colour and how these two components can complement each other in your pieces. The second day is more openly structured. In consultation with Arjan, this day is planned flexible as a "drop in" between 14:00-20:00. On the second day we will focus on Arjan's throwing methods and techniques. He will also give tips on how to finish the work after the raw firing.
This course is suitable for advanced students who want to work with porcelain.
